The Kyiv Mathematical Society and the Shevchenko Scientific Society in America announce a competition for the prize for young mathematicians of Ukraine in 2025.

The aim of the competition is to stimulate the interest of young people in fundamental and applied scientific research, and to support young mathematicians who are engaged in scientific work in their homeland.

The competition is sponsored by Shevchenko Scientific Society of America.

The competition is open to citizens of Ukraine aged up to 37 years as of January 1, 2025 who

  • have achieved outstanding results in mathematics

  • are either
    • candidates of physical and mathematical sciences, or
    • doctors of philosophy (in mathematical specialties), or
    • doctors of physical and mathematical sciences,
  • and also, or
    • have a permanent position in Ukraine, or
    • studied in Ukraine and received a diploma of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, doctor of philosophy, or doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, (according to the date of issue of the diploma) not earlier than January 1, 2022 and do not have permanent work abroad (in particular, this condition allows postdoctoral students to participate in the competition).

The winner receives a medal and a prize of $3,500 from the Shevchenko Scientific Society in America. Please note that the funds are transferred to the winner’s USD account and the tax on them will need to be paid independently by the winner.

The applicants should submit:

  1. A short abstract of the work submitted to the competition in Ukrainian, up to one page long, with a clearly formulated main achievement, preferably in the form of a theorem(s), and a brief commentary on it.

  2. An autobiography (CV), including a list of all scientific publications.

  3. A list of the main published works, the results of which are submitted for the competition, and PDF-files of these works. There should be no more than three works, at least one of which is without co-authors.

  4. A list of the main conferences at which the results were reported, the nature of these reports (plenary, sectional, etc.).

  5. The applicants can additionally provide a list of possible reviewers (up to three), but this is not mandatory.

The application and relevant materials should be sent to the email address ntsh.competition@gmail.com

Documents must be submitted in PDF format.

The competition committee (which includes a number of leading mathematicians from Ukraine, USA and other countries) sends the applicants’ projects to reviewers from the list proposed by the candidate and to additional reviewers at their own request. Based on the reviews received, the committee selects the three best applications, which are voted on and a decision is made by majority vote.

The deadline for submitting applications for 2025 is from December 1, 2024 to February 1, 2025.

The results of the competition and the award ceremony are planned to be held in June 2025.

Information about the competition will be posted on the websites of the Kyiv Mathematical Society and the Shevchenko Scientific Society in America.
